Raylloween Adopt-a-thon! - EDIT about DA points!

Well my lovely watchers, I hope you all had an exciting and fun Halloween.  If you watched scary movies, carved pumpkins, went trick or treating, or just had a quiet night in to commune with ghosties I hope it was all rewarding

To start off I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the lovely people who commented/faved/shared my Raylloween monsters which went up in my gallery over October.  I got some great responces from people, and it was a great learning experience which really test the ol' brain coming up with designs and basic details about each monster.

So, what's this Journal about?  Well quite frankly as much as I love my creations I already have WAAAAAAAAAY too many Rayman fancharacters, and I don't think I'd be able to give any of these new folks the time and energy they deserve to be fleshed out into more complex characters.





So here is where you lovelies come in

THESE CREATURES ARE UP FOR ADOPTION

That's right.  You have the opportunity to adopt one of these creations to love, develop and cherish forever.  For a fair price the character completely becomes yours and you are free to expand them however you wish

'But Raye!' you might be asking 'Aren't these FANCHARACTERS for the Rayman series?  Is it ok for you to make money off these established Rayman Universe species even if they're your own designs?'.  And that's a very good question.  So here's the plan

ALL MONEY FROM SALES OF THESE ADOPTABLES WILL BE DONATED TO CHARITY

Specifically to Special Effect, a charity in the UK that helps gamers with disabilities enjoy games.  They do this through modified consoles and controller setups meaning that even people with the most serious and debilitating conditions can enjoy games and be included in the community.  It's one of my favourite charities, and are supported and sponsored by the clothing company Insert Coin who make Rayman t-shirts and hoodies   So I felt it was an appropriate choice

And when I say all I mean, ALL. I will not take one penny or cent of the money made on these adoptables.  It'll go into my Paypal then be redirected to Special Effect.  Even if Paypal screws up and tries to take back some of the money I will personally bump up the donation with my own money to cover any loss through transfer.

SO, if what I've said above tickles your interest let's discuss the rules of these adoptables!


The Adoption drive will start at 12pm (midday) GMT on Sunday Nov 5th (Bonfire Night in the UK!).  At that time I will post a journal to announce that adoptions are open for people to come and stake a claim on the character they would like to adopt.  IT WILL BE FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, so please check the comment section to see if a character you want has already been claimed.  I will not take reservations on characters prior to this time 

Each adoptable will be $15.  That's 13Euro or £11. That is the base price for all adoptables.  If however you'd like to donate a little more for charity that would be wonderfully generous and appreciated!  If not that's fine

ONE adoptable per user, please.  If I have loads left over after a week you are welcome to come back and get another if you wish

NO POINTS DONATIONS.  I only accept world currency through Paypal.  I will not be selling these adoptables for points as I cannot convert points into a donation for Special Effect.
UPDATE Since i have recently found out how to trade adoptables for points and then convert those points into money, I WILL ALSO BE OFFERING THE ADOPTABLES IN EXCHANGE FOR DAPOINTS.  Each adoptable will cost 1500 DA points, the equivalent of $15.  If you prefer to pay with normal currency (see above) that's fine.  This is just another option for those who don't have a paypal account and only have access to DA points as currency.

Once adoptions are open and the new journal is up all you have to do is post a comment on that journal saying what character you'd like to adopt and i will note you.  You MUST have payment ready and be willing to transfer money through paypal.  If you put your name down on a character and don't have payment ready I will NOT hold the character for you, and you might lose it to another person who wants it. Please keep your eye on the comments on the adoption journal to see if someone has made a claim on it.  I will update the journal in realtime as much as possible XD

The adoptables are single characters WITH THE EXCEPTION of KITSUSAGI AND GLAUERTEEN who are SPECIES adoptables.  That means you can make multiples of these two as they are a species and not one single character



Once I have confirmed your payment then the adoptable is yours!  You now have complete creative control over the character, their storyline and their destiny.  

Anything not included on the design sheet is open for you to change and interpret how you like.  Apart from the character design all I have give the characters are names, a general species, and a list of likes and dislikes.  I would prefer these to stay the same, but other than that the rest is up to you.  You get full control over their personality, their gender, sexuality, relationships, alignment (good/evil), family, culture and actions.  If there are any details I've not included in the character design (for example most characters are only drawn from the front) then you have creative freedom to design how they look from other angles without my input.  Even if you just want to give the character to someone else as a gift, that's ok too!  All I ask is that you're respectful with the creations and take good care of them.  Don't let them gather dust in your gallery with no future!

You are then free to use the picture I've drawn of the character and re-upload it to your DA gallery if you wish.  I won't delete them from my gallery, but I will update the images to include who has adopted them and link back to your gallery.  You can use my artwork as a reference, or redraw them in your own style, or pay someone to draw a design sheet for you (heck if you want to commission me to draw a full design sheet for you, drop me a message and we can discuss it ;D)



Once I've adopted a character do I have to credit you when I draw/write about/use them in the future?
No you do not have to credit me once you own the character

Can I buy an adoptable for someone else?
Yes, but keep in mind I will only have evidence of YOU buying the adoptable.  If you then give the character to someone else it's up to you to negotiate with the owner as to who has ownership of it.  Once you've got the adoptable they are your responsibility

How much of the design can I change from the original?
As stated above if I've not included it in the drawing it's free for you to change.  I'm also aware that artists will draw characters in their own unique style, so it's not a big deal if an adopter draws the character bigger, smaller, more/less curvy, taller, shorter, with a slightly different skin tone etc.  Once the character is yours you are free to adapt them to suit your art style

Can I change their name?
I'd prefer you didn't, but feel free to give them nicknames or add new names to the existing one

Can I ship them with other characters?
Absolutely!

Can I change the character into a non Rayman OC?
These adoptables were created to exist and live in Rayman's universe, so generally no.  But I'm aware that crossovers exist and characters evolve and grow beyond their worlds over time.  So no you can't just change the character into a Spyro-dragon or a pony or a Pokemon species, but if they move away from the Rayman universe and become more like OC's then that's ok.  Just keep in mind they are heavily based on Rayman character designs from the games/cartoon, so keeping them as fancharacters is probably safer. 

Why don't you give away the adoptables for free?
I did originally consider this, but I felt it was an untrustworthy way of giving out adoptables.  There needed to be some kind of exchange so that the adopter had a guarantee that they owned the character, so no one could steal it and claim 'it was free so I own it!'.  I figured it was better to ask for money which could then be given to a worthy cause, which then gives a paper trail for the owner.  Plus it's a solid way to raise money for a charitable cause.
